{% hint style="success" %}
Specifying the mounting height of switching equipment and wired clients isn't currently supported, so all cabling measurements estimates are based on the switching equipment, cable runs and wired clients being at floor level.&#x20;

As AP mounting height is supported this is taken into account when calculating cable runs. E.G. if an AP is mounted at 10m/30ft then the cable run estimate will add that amount to account for cabler drop to floorlevel.

To ensure cable runs aren't underestimated the tool adds 10% extra to runs that pass through a cable tray and 20% to those that don't.
{% endhint %}

## Switch Redundancy

In Hamina Network Planner, it is possible to plan the network for switch redundancy, and to quickly simulate the effects of a switch outage on the wireless network.

To plan for switch redundancy:

1. Plan the wireless network, and place switches on the map.
2. Press <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> + <kbd>A</kbd> or <kbd>⌘</kbd> + <kbd>A</kbd>, and select the **Access Points** filter to select all of the access points on the map.<br>

   <figure><img src="https://1547340717-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzUQ3TfKTYBeb6nf9W8Hv%2Fuploads%2FGv0mRZplJm3a4ZwVoQyT%2Fselect-all-aps.png?alt=media&#x26;token=8513e83c-f386-4eaa-a5b7-dcb29c7d0405" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
3. In the **Edit Access Points** pane, connect all of the access points to a specific switch.<br>

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="https://1547340717-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzUQ3TfKTYBeb6nf9W8Hv%2Fuploads%2FvzeMM6B77EZ6YN9ZZSRo%2Fconnect-to-specific-switch.png?alt=media&#x26;token=5933cdfb-3a9b-447e-ab88-6bcabcd2281d" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
4. Click on an empty place on the map to de-select all access points.
5. Hold down the <kbd>Shift</kbd> key, and click on all of the access points that you would like to connect to another switch. If the Coverage heatmap is enabled, you can see what the selected access points are covering.<br>

   <figure><img src="https://1547340717-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzUQ3TfKTYBeb6nf9W8Hv%2Fuploads%2FWWLHKJ0KZBdCWka5I5ec%2Fsome-aps-selected.png?alt=media&#x26;token=194f9cb5-8c55-4add-82f4-13feef28ccfa" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
6. Back in the **Edit Access Points** pane, connect the selected access points to another switch.<br>

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="https://1547340717-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzUQ3TfKTYBeb6nf9W8Hv%2Fuploads%2Fn4pcrcRyaV5ymPW3o3zd%2Fconnect-to-different-switch.png?alt=media&#x26;token=8a745bbc-1baf-40f6-8ff2-1061a45b4f52" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
7. Optionally, assign a different color to all of the APs that are connected to the alternate switch, which makes them easier to identify later.<br>

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="https://1547340717-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FzUQ3TfKTYBeb6nf9W8Hv%2Fuploads%2F2DQgDBEiMFhR6j3kxxsq%2Fselect-color.png?alt=media&#x26;token=6879af1b-d1cc-4c36-91dc-0403d3c6a585" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

### Viewing Switch Coverage

With the Coverage heatmap enabled, select a switch to filter the heatmap to the access points connected to the switch.

## Renumbering Switches

The process for renumbering switches is identical and uses the same function as [renumbering access points](https://docs.hamina.com/planner/design/access-points#renumbering-access-points).
