## There are black artifacts all over my heatmaps. What's going on?

Hamina Network Planner takes full advantage of your 3D graphics accelerator to draw heatmaps. As a result, support for hardware acceleration must be enabled in your browser.

{% hint style="success" %}
These instructions are for Google Chrome, but the process of enabling hardware acceleration is very similar in most browsers.
{% endhint %}

1. In the upper right corner of your browser, click on the **hamburge**r (three dot) menu.
2. Select **Settings**.
3. The **Settings tab** will appear. Towards the bottom of the Settings menu on the left, select **System**.
4. Enable **Use graphics acceleration when available**.

### I did that, and I am still seeing black artifacts. By the way, I'm running my OS in a Hypervisor, or I'm on a thin client, or something silly like that.

First, note that we only support running Hamina Network Planner on bare-metal, full-features machines like laptops and desktops. That said, we might have a fix. Try this:

1. In Chrome, Chromium, or Edge, go to `chrome://flags`
2. Search for **Enable software rendering list**, and enable it.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you still have trouble and contact us at <support@hamina.com>, we might ask you for the output from `chrome://gpu` .
{% endhint %}

## How do I perform a hard refresh in my web browser?

#### Windows

* **Chrome/Firefox/Edge**: Hold the <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> key and click the **Reload** button
* **Opera**: Hold <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> and click the **Reload** button.

**macOS**

* **Chrome/Firefox**: Hold the <kbd>Shift</kbd> key and click the **Reload** button.
* **Safari**: Press <kbd>⌘</kbd> + <kbd>Option</kbd> + <kbd>R</kbd> or hold <kbd>Shift</kbd> and click the **Reload** button.
* **Opera**: Press <kbd>⌘</kbd> + <kbd>Shift</kbd> + <kbd>R</kbd> or hold <kbd>⌘</kbd> and click the **Reload** button.

**For Linux**

* **Chrome/Firefox/Edge**: Press <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> + <kbd>F5</kbd> or hold <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> and click the **Reload** button.
* **Opera**: Press <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> + <kbd>F5</kbd> or hold <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> and click the **Reload** button.

## Can I run Hamina Network Planner in a virtual machine or on a thin client?

You're welcome to try, but it isn't supported by Hamina Wireless. The main benefit of Hamina Network Planner being a web application is that you can run it on any modern desktop browser, so our hope is that you shouldn't need to run it in a VM, on a thin client, or on a remote access server. The main thing to watch out for are [GPU-related issues](#there-are-black-artifacts-all-over-my-heatmaps.-whats-going-on). For now, Hamina only supports running Hamina Network Planner on "bare metal".
