Aruba New Central

Learn how to import maps and access points from Aruba New Central.

Hamina Network Planner includes integration with Aruba New Central, which can be used to import maps and access points (including model, name, MAC, serial) into Hamina Network Planner. Then, you can add walls, attenuating objects, and scope zones to simulate the current network configuration in a predictive model.

Support for exporting from Hamina Network Planner to Aruba New Central is in development! You can track the status of the issue on the Hamina feedback page.

Buildings and floorplans must be defined in Aruba New Central. No data will be returned from Aruba Central, so no buildings or floorplans will be imported to Hamina Network Planner.

Map/floor names must not exceed 32 characters. Hamina Network Planner will truncate map names that are more than 32 characters long.

Generating Client ID and Secret

  1. Log in to HPE Greenlake.

  2. Open the menu next to the HPE Greenlake logo, and select your workspace.

  3. Select the Personal API Clients card.

  4. Click the Create Personal API client button.

  5. Give the personal API client a custom name, select HPE Aruba Network Central from the drop-down menu. and click the Create personal API client button.

  6. Copy the Client ID and Client secret to a safe location, such as a password manager. After clicking Close, the Client secret will no longer be accessible.

  7. In either Import or Live Analysis Setup, choose the correct Region, paste in the Client ID, and the Client Secret.

Importing Maps

Transmit Power

Aruba uses EIRP to represent transmit power, and Hamina Network Planner uses Total Conducted Power. When importing from Aruba to Hamina, or when using the Live View, note that Hamina directly imports the transmit power without converting it from EIRP to Total Conducted Power. You may need to use a calculator such as https://power.potatofi.com/ to perform this conversion.

Exporting Maps

After making changes to the network such as adding, moving, or renaming APs, the Export function will push the changes from Hamina Network Planner back to Aruba Central. It can also be used to deploy a new network.

You don't need to import a network before making changes and exporting it. You can build a brand-new network and Export it to Aruba Central to deploy it. You'll still need to do network setup in the Aruba Central, but you won't have to duplicate any mapping, AP placement, or AP naming outside of Hamina Network Planner.

It works largely the same way as the Import function, just in the opposite direction. For Hamina Network Planner Plus users, exporting the network also sets it up for the Live View.

Creating a Building

When exporting from Hamina to Aruba Central, you might need to first create a building in Aruba Central with a "dummy" map in the building. After the export from Hamina to Aruba Central is complete, you can remove the dummy map.
